INSPIRE Fellowship, by the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India, supports graduate/postgraduate degree holders in pursuing doctoral research at any recognized Indian university or institute. The selected fellows will be granted funds according to the Government of India norms for up to five years or until the completion of their PhD (whichever comes first).
Eligibility of INSPIRE Fellowship
To be eligible, an applicant must :
- Be an INSPIRE scholar.
- Secure a minimum of 70% marks (or equivalent CGPA) in aggregate at M.Sc. or Integrated M.S./M.Sc. degree.
- Secure the 1st rank at the university-level examination in postgraduate (PG) studies in Basic/Applied Sciences, including Engineering, Medical, Pharmaceutical, Agricultural, and Veterinary Sciences from a recognized university or academic institution in India.
- Achieve the 1st rank at the graduate/postgraduate level examination in Medicine conducted by a university/institution in India.
Note: Applicants eligible to apply must be Indian citizens who acquired their eligibility for the INSPIRE Fellowship in the years
Benefits of INSPIRE Fellowship
This scheme aims to select a total of 1,000 fellows. Those who are selected will receive financial support according to Government of India norms, with a maximum duration of five years or until the completion of their PhD (whichever occurs first).

1. Passport-size photograph [JPEG format; size – 50KB].
2. Age certificate.
3. Class 10 mark sheet or certificate (for proof of Date of Birth) [PDF format; size 1 MB].
4. Mark sheets of educational qualifications (like 12th, UG & PG Program) [PDF format; size 1 MB].
5. A certificate of first rank in PDF format (size 1 MB) is available for applicants who are not INSPIRE scholars.
6. Appointment letter (if employed) [PDF format; size 1 MB].
7. Endorsement letter in 1 MB of PDF format.
8. For applicants already enrolled in the Ph.D. program
- Admission Letter (issued by University Authorities i.e. Registrar, Dean, Director, etc.
- Only joining as JRF will not be acceptable; in such a case, you should submit as a non-Ph.D. scholar.[PDF format; size 1 MB]
